Homework and the planner update

Making planners effective - involving all stakeholders

Student

  • Learn effective planner use in L2L
  • Use planner daily to record homework, key dates, attainment, progress, important information
  • Place planner on desk at the start of every lesson
  • Ask parent / carer to check planner weekly and discuss contents
  • Buy a new planner if you lose it - £1.
Form Tutor
  • Teach effective planner use in L2L
  • Check contents and sign planners at least once per fortnight
  • Check that pupils have planners every morning in form period - use a grid to record pupils without planners and issue dress code & lilac slip.
  • Take action if planners not being used:
  • Within any half term:

One day without planner – lilac slip & dress code
Two days - letter / call home
Three days without planner- detention
Persistent offenders – BIP / Impact  referral

Subject Teachers
  • Ask all pupils to put planners on desk at start of lesson
  • Issue dress code & lilac slip to those without planners
  • Ask pupils to record homework in planners
  • Use planner to communicate with parents / carers
Impact Tutor
  • Establish effective monitoring and evaluation system for planner use 
  • Support sanctions and follow-up
BIP Team
  • Undertake spot checks on planners in lessons / form period
  • Support Impact Tutor in monitoring effective use of planners
  • Support tutors in sanctions
SLT
  • Use assemblies to launch and remind
  • Carry out regular planner scrutiny / spot checks
  •  Include planners on business meeting agendas
  • Evaluate at SLT meetings
Parents / carers
  • Sign and discuss planner weekly
  • Use planner to communicate with form tutor
  • Encourage pupils to use and bring planner every day.
Learning Mentors
  • Encourage use of planner for time management
  • Reinforce usefulness
  • Communicate with parents of repeat offenders
L2L Co-ordinator
    • Lead induction programme for new staff on use of planner
    • Plan L2L lesson on effective use of planner
