Activities

Learning outside the classroom

The world we live in has a great deal to offer so here at the Dearne High School we take as many opportunities as possible for learning to be expanded beyond the classroom.

Our policy of enriching the curriculum is very much enhanced by dedication of staff, willing to give up their own time, and the availability of our own minibus for transport.

Field trips

Visits related to different subject areas are an integral part of many courses. One day educational trips are organised by a range of different departments such as Geography, History, Technology and the Arts in order to relate the real world to what is happening in the classroom. These activities are carefully planned and monitored to ensure they give students maximum educational value.

Work Experience

During Year 10 students will take part in the Work Experience programme. This varies between two and three weeks depending upon the time of year.

We regard work experience and connections with local businesses as an important part of the curriculum. We attempt to enable the world of work to permeate the curriculum.

Work experience placements are part of a planned activity where we work with students to make placement choice. Students are visited in the work place by staff from the school, who encourage students to discuss and reflect upon their experiences.

Our Careers Co-ordinator organises Work Experience and can be contacted at school, on 01709 892211.

Residential Experience

Students will be offered opportunities to participate in educational experiences both in this country and abroad, that span a number of days, and therefore involve being away from home.

We consider such experiences as very important in the all round development of the individual, and hope parents will do all they can to support such activities.
