This is an exciting time for the History department, as we are looking at introducing some big changes: The Dearne High School recognises the huge benefits to students of studying History, Geography and Religious Studies and has recently committed itself to putting the Humanities at the core of our learning journey. From September 2007, All Key Stage 4 Students will be obliged to choose one of the Humanities subjects and will have an option to choose a second, if they so wish. The School has recently applied for Specialist School status in Humanities and English, which if successful, will allow us to develop our Humanities provision further still.
We are also pleased to be involved in providing our Key Stage 4 students with the very latest in hand-held technology, in order to enhance teaching and learning – putting History at the Dearne High School at the cutting edge of educational technology.

The History department at the Dearne High School fully recognises the huge benefits to students of well-organised, curriculum-integrated educational visits. We currently undertake day visits to Conisborough Castle, York Minster, York Dungeon, as well as residential trips to the Great War battlefields in France and Belgium. We are currently looking at opportunities to expand our range and frequency of such visits.
From September 2007, we hope to offer an after school ‘History Film Club’, which will provide a low-pressure, fun supplement to historical learning.
