ICT curriculum overview

Here at the Dearne High School, Students will expect to partake in the following curriculum within ICT

Key Stage 2

Year 6

During Year 5, Teachers from The Dearne High School invite all primary schools to attend a Primary Transition Control Day.  The day includes planning and developing flowcharts for their models, which they have prepared before hand and the pupils make their models move and also use mimics to test their flowcharts.

An ICT teacher from The Dearne High School attends each primary school and teaches Databases to the Year 6 pupils.  The teacher teaches the pupils and treats them like secondary school pupil.  The pupils complete an afternoon in the ICT suite and complete a Murder Mystery Database.

KS3

Year 7

During Year 7 Pupils work through ICT units to develop their skills preparing themselves for key stage 4.  They start Year 7 to familiarise themselves with The Dearne High School network, E-Mail and the ICT classroom rules.  They complete a basic skills unit, which comprises of file management, saving, printing, layouts, screen shots and the national curriculum levels.  They then complete an E-portfolio unit to store all their work and then complete the following units: game maker, animation, modelling using spreadsheets, presenting data web design and paper publications.

Year 8

Pupils in Year 8 recap on the basic skills unit, e-mail, e-portfolio and basic ICT classroom rules, they then progress to complete a public information systems unit, understand and finding sources and information, models and presenting information using spreadsheets, data dandling using databases and a control unit using the models and mimic.

Year 9

In Year pupils are to prepare themselves for the ICT online tests, which are in March.  So at the beginning of the term they complete a file management unit and database unit, then prepare themselves by recapping on their ICT skills which consist of databases, spreadsheets, control, desk top publishing, presentations, word processing, sources of information, e-mail and planning.  After the ICT online tests Year 9 pupils will be practising for the either Key skills, web design or ECDL.

 

KS4

All pupils complete an ICT course either:
AiDA (1 GCSE)
CiDA (2 GCSE’s)
DiDA (4 GCSE’s)
Web Design
ECDL
ITQ
Imedia
Key skills

Pupils who complete the DiDA, CiDA or AiDA complete a set of modules. Currently pupils are complete a projects consisting of:

Year 10


D201 = 5 A Day (Using ICT)
D202 = Crack the Code (Multimedia)
D203 = Come to the Fair (Graphics)
D204 = Cash 4 Kids (ICT in Enterprise)

Year 11


D201 = Make Space (Using ICT)
D202 = Energise you life (Multimedia)
D203 = Come to the Fair (Graphics)
D204 = Cash 4 Kids (ICT in Enterprise)

Year 10 and 11 also complete the ECDL course, which comprises of:

Concepts to Information Technology
Using the Computer and Managing Files
Word Processing
Spreadsheets
Databases
Presentation
Information and Communication
