Maths curriculum overview
Here at the Dearne High School, Students will expect to partake in the following curriculum within Maths
KS3
In Years 7, 8 and 9 the scheme of work is divided into 4 attainment targets: Number, Shape and Space, Algebra and Data Handling. Using and applying is integrated into all four promoting problem solving and application to real life situations.
Each attainment target is tested at the end of the unit and the results are analysed by staff and students to identify personal curricular targets. These are then addressed through personalised home works / extra support.
KS4
In Year 10 students start the 2-year AQA GCSE modular course.
The course consists of 5 modules. Module 1 is an exam (data handling). Module 2 is coursework (Data handling). Module 3 is an exam (Number and algebra). Module 4 is coursework (Number and algebra). Module 5 is the final exam in June of year 11 (Shape and space and some algebra).
Modules 1 to 4 are completed in year 10 and these results contribute to the final GCSE grade in year 11.
In Year 11 students are working in preparation for the final module in June. Holiday revision classes are offered as well as after school sessions.
