Music curriculum overview

The music department comprises of two fully equipped classrooms with interactive whiteboards, with approximately fifteen to twenty keyboards in each room. The main teaching room has a bank of ten computers, which have internet access and use the “Cubasis” programme. Students have access to a range of equipment and are encouraged to develop their skills in lessons and through instrumental lessons, which include Drums, keyboards, guitar, woodwind and strings.

KS3

At key stage 3, the subject covers a broad and balanced curriculum and aims to provide students with an understanding of the subject through areas such as Notation skills, Guitars, Film music, Popular Music and Music from other cultures.

The program “Music Notator” is also successfully accessed by Key stage 3 students enhancing teaching and learning in music.

KS4

At Key stage 4, the department offers the Edexcel level 2 BTec First Diploma in Music. This course covers areas such as: Producing a production, exploring the music profession, understanding music, performance skills and Recording.
