National Curriculum
The Dearne High School's curriculum conforms to National Curriculum requirements at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. |
The National Curriculum is a set of guidelines laid down by the Department for Education for all state schools in England and Wales. It can be compared to the Highway Code in that it is a set of standards that have to be followed.
Sex education
Sex education is handled throughout the school in the context of relationships and the family. Any material being considered which might be of a controversial nature is submitted to the Governors and Head teacher for approval. Parents are always welcome in school if they wish to discuss this matter.
Religious Education
The curriculum followed by all children is in line with the agreed syllabus adopted by Barnsley Local Authority. It includes information on all major World Religions as well as Christianity. Parents have the right on grounds of conscience to request that their children be exempted from Religious Education and from Assembly.
