Conduct Guide

Travelling to and from School

The standards of behaviour expected from students apply from the moment they leave home in the morning until the time they return. The behaviour of students at these times can have a big influence on people's perceptions of the school; their behaviour on the streets and buses affects the public's opinion of the school.

School Buses

Youth Yorkshire Transport has the contract for transporting students to and from school. The buses stop at a range of well known pick up points along the route.

At the close of the school day, staff supervise students on to the buses, but are not able to supervise them in transit. students must behave sensibly on the buses, in the manner they would be expected to on any public transport.

Please encourage your child to:
  • Enter and leave the bus in an orderly manner
  • Remain seated when the bus is moving
  • Refrain from any behaviour which may distract the driver

Lunchtimes

Students who remain in school at lunch times have the choice of a hot meal or a snack. Meal of the day can be purchased for £1.50p. The meals are served in our new cafeteria, where students can choose from the range on offer.

Electronic Registration and Cashless Catering

All students will be issued with a personalised electronic swipe card. This card is used for registration purposes am and pm, lesson attendance and cashless catering in the dinging hall.

Electronic registration and cashless catering

All students will be issued with a personalised electronic swipe card. This card is used for registration purposes am and pm, lesson attendance and cashless catering in the dining hall.

Electronic registration and lesson attendance takes place as students, under teacher supervision, swipe their cards through readers positioned in every classroom. It is the responsibility of each student to have their card with them every day in school.

Cashless catering requires students to pay into the system in advance and then use their card to obtain food and drink. A security cheque box and three account loaders (for cash) are situated in the dining hall. Make cheques payable to The Dearne High School. No cash is accepted at tills during breakfast club, breaktime and lunchtime. Students entitled to free school meals are not required to carry tokens. Their entitlement is automatically credited to their account at 12.00pm daily.

Lost cards should be reported to Student Services immediately, there will be a charge for replacement cards.

Students who remain in school at lunch time must stay in designated areas within the school campus. They are in the care of lunch time supervisors. This places great responsibility and trust on students. If this is abused parents will be asked to make other arrangements at lunch time.

Students who have parental permission to leave the site at lunch time must do so straight away, and not return until 1.15 pm. This is because the level of supervision at lunch time is calculated from the number of students staying for school lunch.
